AN OPEN LETTER OF CLARIFICATION TO THE CITIZENS OF GANANOQUE, ONTARIO, CANADA
On behalf of CaraCo Development Corporation, developers of Stone & South on the River, I want to publicly apologize for the recent misunderstanding regarding an email requesting a list of candidates running in the upcoming Municipal election. Our well-meaning email sent from our accounting department asked for clarification on whether political contributions could come from companies or individuals. We asked for a list of ALL CANDIDATES who might benefit from personal, not corporate contributions.†This is entirely within the Municipal Election rules and regulations. In no way was this request intended to influence anyone. We understand the importance of running for public office. Our intention was to offer support for our democratic municipal election process, for the greater good of Gananoque.
WE RESPECT THE ABORIGINAL HERITAGE OF THE GANANOQUE COMMUNITY:
Again, the issue of the land’s Aboriginal heritage has surfaced. We want citizens to know that all at CaraCo have the utmost respect for our country’s and our community’s Aboriginal heritage. As a developer, we completed an archaeological survey, which was part of our due diligence. Nothing of significance was found from the survey and dig, and our project was approved months ago.
Since 1957, the CaraCo Group†has a positive, well-respected and committed-to-the community history in Kingston. As part of our core values, we support many charities and organizations in the Gananoque and Kingston communities where we live and work.
We support the following Gananoque and Kingston organizations:
- The Playhouse Theatre
- Thousand Islands Boat Museum
- Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association
- Kingston YMCA Penguins Aquatic Club
- The local United Way
- The Kidney Foundation
- The Heart & Stroke Foundation
- Hospice Kingston
- The K-Rock Building Fund
- The Kingston Military Family Resource Centre
- The Sunshine Foundation
- Gananoque Firefighters Association
- Heather Haynes Gallery
- The Grand Theatre
- University Hospitals Kingston Foundation
- Lions Civic Gardens
- Kingston Community Health Centres
- The Boys and Girls Club
- Pathways to Education
- Easter Seals
- The March of Dimes
- Local sports teams
We are also proud to sponsor CaraCo Home Field—a premier sports facility in Kingston’s west end, offering a high-quality venue for school track and field meets. Features include artificial turf surfacing that accommodates an extended sports season, an eight-lane, 400-m running track with rubber sports surface and numerous other facilities. One of the CaraCo Group of Companies, CaraCo Storage Solutions, regularly hosts auctions in support of local charities.
At CaraCo, we aim to enrich the quality of life for citizens in each of our communities. We care about Gananoque, the community and its people. We also care about the upcoming election, and never had any intention to influence its outcome or future municipal decisions.
CaraCo is a family-run business. We are proud of our reputation and integrity. If our question about political contributions mentioned in the email was misinterpreted, again for that, we apologize!
