JUSTICE MURRAY SINCLAIR IS THE MOSIAC INSTITUTE’S 2016 “PEACE PATRON”

TORONTO, February 17, 2016 –The Hon. Justice Murray Sinclair will be honoured as The Mosaic Institute’s 2016 Peace Patron.
Justice Sinclair will receive his tribute at the Institute’s Peace Patron dinner, Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at The Carlu in Toronto.  He will bethe third Mosaic honouree, joining the Hon. Hugh Segal and the Hon. Louise Arbour.
An exemplary Canadian peace maker, Justice Sinclair most recently completed his tenure as Chair of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The report the Commission presented to government was heralded as visionary and has become the guide for reconciliation between Canada’s First Nations and the Canadian people.
AsManitoba’s first Aboriginal Judge, he was first appointed Associate Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba in 1988 and soon becameCo-Commissioner of Manitoba’s Aboriginal Justice Inquiry. In 2001, Justice Sinclair was appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba. In 2000, he completed the Report of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Inquest, a study into the deaths of 12 children in Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre pediatric cardiac surgery program.
Established in 2007 by Toronto entrepreneur Vahan Kololian as Canada’s think and do tank, “the Institute’s mandateisto harness this country’s diversity for peace at home and abroad. AllMosaic Institute programs involve active learning (thinking) and hands-on community service (doing),” said Executive Director Bernie M. Farber.
