TORONTO, May 8, 2013… The Heillig Manoeuvre quartet returns to Paintbox Bistro on Saturday, May 11/13 @ 8 pm after the successful launch of their latest CD ‘Toons, earlier this year.
Founded by bassist Henry Heillig in 1998, the band performs and records Heillig’s original jazz compositions. He describes the band’s repertoire as “more songbook than doctoral thesis”. Heillig is best known for his 30+ year stint as musical director of Manteca. A prolific Toronto jazz freelancer, works extensively with harmonica giant Carlos del Junco. Alleyne is a true legend of the Toronto jazz scene, having spent over 10 years in the house band at the fabled Town Tavern, as well as being the drummer of choice for many visiting band leaders. Alleyne was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2011, in honour of both his musical longevity and his support of young musicians through his foundation, the Archie Alleyne Scholarship Fund. Alleyne will perform alongside Stacie McGregor on piano and Artie Roth on bass, and Alexander Brown Cabrera on trumpet.
